A Journey Through a Career in Project Management in
IT Services - HP
Not many young people say they want to be a project manager when they grow up! So how do you get into a career in project management? What makes a good project manager, what do they do and what is it like as a woman project manager in an IT Services company? Using her own 14 year career in HP as a case study, in this session Stephanie will take a look at the opportunities and challenges of a career in IT Services project management.
Speaker: Stephanie Small, HP
Stephanie’s first career was as a Fighter Control Officer in the Royal Air Force. After leaving to have a family, she retrained, studying for a BSc and then an MSc. After some part time work in IT training, Stephanie joined Digital Equipment Co. as a project manager. Over the next 14 years, as Digital merged with Compaq and then Hewlett Packard, she has delivered a variety of IT projects to Enterprise organizations such as Astra Zeneca, Bank of Ireland, and Vodafone Ireland. Stephanie now works as a manager of project managers and looks after the business management of a portfolio of projects. In her spare time she is a keen, but still slow, runner and gym enthusiast, and plans to take part in her first triathlon this spring.
